Irene will begin to produce tropical storm conditions around noon on Saturday, with the possibility of winds 65-75 mph by 2:00PM. The county's EOC (Emergency Operation Center) will open at the sheriff's office at 8:00am Saturday. If needed, a shelter will operate at Essex Intermediate School on Marsh St. in Tappahannock. Water will be available at the Tappahannock Rescue Squad and the Tappahannock-Essex Vol. Fire Department. You must bring your own containers.

The word is prepare. Purchase your supplies now. Prepare for a power outage, high winds and flooding. During the storm stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. Do all you need to do before the storm.
